How do I start / stop or restart Apache web sever via SSH (secure shell) under Linux or UNIX operating systems?

Once logged in switch to the root user and entering the root password:

To view status:
service httpd status

To restart server:
service httpd restart

To start server:
service httpd start

To stop server:
service httpd stop
